Not all games were that hard back in the day, but you're right about the last 15 years of games.
On the other hand Volgarr is not that hard (haven't gotten past the first boss myself, but honestly i haven't given it enough playtime), if you're patient it becomes easy.

Ok, there is a publisher who'd love to produce a complete retail version of Völgarr if the Crazy Vikings agree:

The Crazy Viking Studios have already been contacted. Who would buy it? Raise your hands :)
(raises his hand)
Maybe they need to be made aware of the community's interest on Facebook? Or am I wrong and there is not enough interest?

I'd buy it as frankly I cannot get the damn thing to burn to a disc.
I think the fact that it is free may seriously damage sales; perhaps if they include extras odst, artbook etc.
I'd wager they might be best releasing a limited edition version only, limited to a a few thousand copies at most. Yes, I'd buy it.

There were easy games in the late 80s and early 90s too. Altered Beast isn't hard, the Sonic games, while freaking amazing, aren't too challenging. Even Ghosts n Goblins (at least the NES port) isn't as hard as Volgarr, except for the lack of infinite lives. That made it a lot harder than Volgarr is.

I used IMGburn, and it worked first time. Plus the DC market isn't something they're super working hard on. I mean, there's millions of PCs, XB1s, and 360s still on every day. How many DC users still actively use the system? I mean, 10 million were sold, and most of us now have more than 1, so like a few hundred thousand tops.

...And this is why I love the folks at Crazy Viking:

Does it have achievements?

It does now!

I uploaded a new version with achievements and a few polish fixes here:

http://www.volgarrtheviking.com/dreamcast/VolgarrDC_2015-10-13.zip

Of course I can't guarantee I didn't break something in the process, since I don't currently have a working Dreamcast that can play CD-R's to test it with. Anyone want to be a guinea pig for me, and if it works inform whomever it is that runs that site everyone is downloading the ROM from?

So yes, this version is supposed to have achievements on the Dreamcast. Anyone who is hardcore enough to make it past level 2 (that's as far as I can go so far), go ahead and PM me and let me know how it works for you.
