im gonna download the metal slug collection on cd, i was going to ask your opinion on how you could get metal slug 3 running faster

thanks for this, im sure it was a lot of work just to get it to run

It would run faster metal slug 3 if you made a prefetch mmu file cached to the sd card with aes4all rc4 but you need a coders cable and other things to do it..

HOW TO CREATE INITIAL NEO4ALL/AES PREFETCHS


This is a little guide about how to create initial prefetch files for NEO4ALL/AES emulator. You need a BBA or coders cable for sending prefetch information from Dreamcast to PC.
In next steps, i suppose that you have a BBA, for coders cable is very similar.

Code: Select all

1.- Create a normal CD with NEO4ALL directory+files and put your convert ROMS (.AES) to any directory too.

2.- Run DC-TOOL loader tool under Dreamcast.

3.- Swap CD with your prepared CD (step 1).

4.- Go to GNU/Linux or Windows command line and launch binary redirecting standard output, example: 'dc-tool -x aes4all.bin > prefetch'

5.- Choose any ROM without touch emulator params.

6.- Play normally and try to avoid large presentations. When MMU cache will be full emulator will stop itself.

7.- If you had played a lot of time (>30min), go to exit option menu.

8.- Send me prefetch file (stadard output redirect): [email protected]

9.- Also you can test your prefetch, edit prefech file and cut lines between '_MMU_HANDLE_DUMP_MEMACESS_ -------' and '-------_MMU_HANDLE_DUMP_MEMACESS_', only data without tags ..._MMU_... using wordpad.

10.- Copy cut file as prefetch/name_of_aes.pre under convertneo directory and rebuild .AES file.

Now, AES4ALL has SD-Card support (yes, MMU using SD instead CD is more fast, so more playable for large NeoGeo roms) and fixes Yamaha timmings: Etc music no slowing and speeding up

Prefetch file running from sd card means no thrashing of the cd rom or laser it cant be in 2 places at the same time so it's got nothing to do with gdemu or the gdemu is faster If people can understand this..

Using the GDEMU and prefetch is still going to get stops as the GDEMU rom emulated laser still cant be in 2 places at once.. meaning if it reads from the sd card it never has to speeding it up it's got nothing to do with the sd card reader being slow.. Dreamcast can do both at once when the prefetch file is on the sd card.. The GDEMU rom does not have to stop to read the prefetch then read the other parts.. that's the point chui made with rc4 if you can get this.. it's a big speedup because it never has to stop to read the prefetch like it does if the file is on the GDEMU as well.. Parallel file access not stop start..

if you have the prefetch on the iso image with the game still not as good as on the sd card.. GDEMU emulated laser cant be at 2 places at once..

Only use the SD card to load the prefetch file not the game iso that still loads from the cd is this clear?

rc4 can do this not rc3 dont load the game with the sd card reader just the MMU prefetch

that collection is rc3 so works on a gdemu but cant read the prefetch from the sd card..

only rc4 can do that and it dont work from a GDEMU with out changes to the source
