Old news but interesting...

Sony Playstation 3 is expected to be released in 2006. The PS3 will feature an IBM processor based around IBM's 'Cell' architecture and a GPU from nVidia. The processor is expected to be based around a 0.10um, SOI, copper interconnect process giving teraflops of floating point performance and low power usage. Storage is expected to come in the form of BlueRay disks. The on-board graphics are based around a custom version of nVidia's NV5x GPU, offering around 50 times the performance of the Graphics Synthesizer in the PS2.

Microsoft X-Box 2 is expected to be released in 2006. The successor to the X-Box is expected to contain 3 x IBM PowerPC CPUs, ATI graphics hardware and a SiS chipset. The three 64-bit processors are based around the PowerPC 976 core. Each processor is a dual-core design based on IBM's POWER5 architecture and will be built using a 65nm process. The 3 Dual Core 64-bit processors will allow the X-Box 2 to simultaneously handle 6 threads. The ATI graphics hardware will be based around ATI's R500 core which will fully support DirectX 9 Pixel and Vertex Shader V.3 and probably DirectX 10. The graphics chip also contains embedded DRAM to allow an extremely high memory bandwidth. X-Box 2 is expected to feature 256Mb of memory.

Sega DreamCast 2 is expected to be released late 2006. The new machine will feature an 4 AMD processors based around the AMD64 Dual Core architecture & ATI's newer R580 graphic's core. The processor is expected to be based on the 65nm, SOI, copper interconnect process and a highly scalable HTT giving teraflops of floating point performance and low ultra power usage. The system will also house a built in 120GB hard drive with SATA2 technology. ATI's on-board graphics are based around a customized R580 GPU, offering around 80 times the performance of the Graphics Performance in the late DreamCast. Its chipset is also based on a modified version of ATI's RADEON® XPRESS 200 Series.

Nintendo GameCube 2 is expected to be released in late 2005 or 2006. The physical hardware of the GameCube 2 currently appears to be similar to that of X-Box2 with the GameCube 2 featuring an IBM processor and ATI GPU.

To outdated for today! But still cool!

The only thing that article got right is with the PS3 and "Xenon" which indeed turned out to use the mircoprocessors the article claimed. They were defineltly wrong with "Revolution" and "Lindbergh" as Nintendo made little changes to GC hardware, only modifiying its clockspeed and added a processor to the GPU it was using to 2002 standards instead of 1999.

By the time this was published, SEGA already scrapped "Cosmic Smash/Dreamcast 2" which would have used a Celeron for a 2004 PC motherboard using a supercharged Pentium 4 HT updated to run 4 core L3.

In regaurds to Super System/NEPTUNE's CPU this is what I've heard.

The SEGADRIVE board will use a Fujistu SPARC Venus 8 CPU capable of a 4.0 GHZ clock speed and 250 GFLOPS using x86 configuration.

Super System/NEPTUNE will use a modified version based off Hitachi ARM SuperH ISM(Instructional Set Machine) CPU instead as a cost cutting measure. The Hitachi ARM ISM CPU codenamed "Stealth" will contain nearly 50 32-bit RISC mircoprocessors all running parellel together running a 512-bit computer preformance, with a 4000 mhz clockspeed or 4 GHZ, using 2.9 GHZ MIPS and 512MBs.(Dreamcast used 4 RISCS, Saturn used 2 but Saturn's ran seperately.)

Both SEGADRIVE and NEPTUNE/Super System will be powered by a NEC Power VR 6 Rogue GPU both using a VDP running 512-bits and will use 512 MBs of GDDR5 Shader Model 5.0, full 3D Stereoscopic processing, autoscopic, and Unreal 3 full utilization running full 60fps on 2010 PC graphics.

They are rumored to also be containing a Imagination Tech Caustic Graphics CausticOne RTE on die RTU chip running at 384MBs of low resolution ray tracing, rotoscoping, light sourcing and real time photo realism proccessing.

SEGASammy wants a $300-350 price tag on the console with a budget said to be $700-800 million slightly higher than Dreamcast's $500 million and about the same as Saturn's $650 million 18 years ago(just adjust inflation from 1993 to 2011.) and you'll get around $800 million.

So EA wants its IPs to be published by SEGA of Japan. Hmmm, notice "publish" not develop. So they would count as only EA properties being published by a different publisher. An alliance with EA is one of the best things to ever happen to SEGA in a long time.

Look at it this way, this could also assure that Super System/NEPTUNE will have EA's support unlike Dreamcast.

Ya know when I saw that I was thinking about the bad blood between Sega and ea... this could improve their chances of a return to consoles...their not supporting dreamcast really hurt them back then

They are also partnered with OpenFeint for social media games, PlatinumGames, Playtech, and BBC at times for promotion, and certain Sonic games. There are also partnerships with Glu, Chiquita Brands, Secret Level, exclusive partner of UK resort, Planet Moon, and MLB Advanced Media. They seem to be able to partner easily, but i wonder how many of these partnerships will continue to the Super System/Neptune!

Well we could go out on a limb and say perhaps this is a shadow move signaling that they've been given rev kits for said system. This is the speculation section. : )

Who knows, i have heard from a few unreliable sources that they have sent out development kits, but as i stated, they are unreliable!

SEGA will continue to support social media 3rd party games. Although you often wonder how many parnterships are 1st party related.
