Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 - Game freezes while saving [FIXED]

Sort of feeling doubtful I'll get an answer here considering it's such a specific question, but I'll try anyway.

I imported Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 from the USA recently, and I've been using a boot disc to play it on my PAL system. The game works completely fine, but when it comes to saving in Quest mode, it completely locks up. I can save in any other menu without issue, but none of my Quest mode data will be saved, which means I can't progress through the game.

I heard there was a solution, but I'm not entirely sure on what it was. Does anybody know what to do?

All I could find is this information on GameFaqs:

A: There could be a number of reasons for this. It depends on what kind of
system you are using to play the game. If you are using an Asian terriotry Dreamcast it shouldn't be a problem. If it is, then your game is screwed up and you should go complain to your importer or genki.

If you are like me and using a modded US DC then the problem is probably in
your VMU. You may want to try switching VMUs each time you save. If this a
problem never save by quiting, instead make sure to save through the system menu (one to the left of the exit button). FI you are using the boot CD to play either a
copied or imported version of the game, check with the website where you burned the boot CD from, they might have a newer version which will work fine with the
game.

I managed to find some steps while sifting about some ancient forums :P
I thought it would be useful to paraphrase them and post them here for any future reference, considering some of them were horribly worded. It took me a while to figure it out, but I can confirm this method definitely works

How to save on an imported copy of Shutokou Battle / Tokyo Xtreme Battle 2
1) Ensure there is NO Tokyo Xtreme Battle 2 data present on the VMU
2) Start a new game in Quest mode
3) After finishing your session, return to the Garage and navigate to System > Options and select 'Save Game File' DO NOT use the 'Save Quest' option.

When returning to the game
4) Play Tokyo Xtreme Battle 2, Navigate to Quest mode and 'Load Quest'
5) Remove your VMU and delete Tokyo Xtreme Battle 2 data from the unit itself
6) When you are done playing, repeat step 3

I hope this helps anyone else out who's confused!
