Help with s-video

Hi guys,

Im new here was just after some help.

I found my dreamcast the other day but no cables so i bought the power cord and a dreamcast s-video cable for video and sound.

i am playing through a Hisense HL42V86P.

It booted up fine, setup the time and everything and got to the home screen.
But whenever i boot up a game it shows the usual dreamcast and then sega logos, but when the game actually initiates it comes on for about 1/2 a second and then the video and sound go off and my tv displays no signal.

I bought a vga box online last night anyway but i wouldnt mind getting an idea of why this is happening.

Thanks for any time and help, look forward to being a part of this community.

my hisense lcd is receiving no signal from it and neither is my viewsonic lcd monitor.
im borrowing an rca cable to use through the vga box to see if that works.
just about given up on this whole dreamcast thing.

Were the cables you purchased new or second hand? Cables that have been used and left out in the open for some time can easily tarnish. Take a look at how the dreamcast a/v cable is shaped and you can even see the metal plates - nice and exposed to the world. Try cleaning it like you would a video game cartridge - alcohol and q-tip.

Another thing to consider is the region of the dreamcast your using, the region of the games your trying to play, and the age / manufacture / region the TV your using came from?
