Brook Wingman SD compatibility

Hello :)

I just got my Dreamcast last month, and it did not come with controllers.

I bought the Brook Wingman SD to allow me to use Xbox controllers with it, but I have since learned that the new Series S|X controllers are not compatible because they use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Has anyone here tested the Microsoft Xbox Wireless USB adapter with the Brook Wingman SD?

It is much more readily available and cheaper here in Malaysia, compared to having to track down Xbox One controllers.

Thank you.

The Series pads work fine with a cord on the SD. Will see if anyone I know has the Xbox wireless adapter and try it

Get this adapter from 8BitDo and connect to your Wingman SD.
https://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/

Update the adapter to the latest firmware and configure for X-INPUT.

Should work over Bluetooth with the Series S/X controller.

I do this, but use a Bluetooth 8BitDo SN30 Pro+.

As a bonus, the adapter supports additional Bluetooth controllers and consoles plus Windows and Mac.

I actually tried this already, and it couldn't successfully pair over Bluetooth either.

I contacted 8bitdo support, and they said it's because the BLE radio used in the Series S|X controller is not compatible with the current wireless USB adapters, although they are developing an updated version of this.

Because it's a hardware limitation, this cannot be solved by a firmware update.

Hence the need to ask about the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter :(

Yeah, it works perfectly with a USB-C cable. But once I integrate the Dreamcast to my home theater, I would need a wireless solution.

Would be great if you're able to test the Xbox Wireless Adapter out

If that's the case, then 8BitDo is flat out lying on their webpage.

What about this gem in conjunction with the adapter.

Not too sure about the SN30 Pro for Xbox Cloud controller, I already have the normal SNES-style SN30 Pro controller hooked up to my OUYA, and I feel it's too small to be comfortable.

I'm looking at https://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter... maybe they've updated it since, but I don't see a mention on Series S|X controller support.

I confirm the adapter works with Xbox One controllers via Bluetooth, as I use it in conjunction with an OGX360 board with my Xbox.

OK, I see now, I've got the controllers names mixed up.

'I feel it's too small to be comfortable.' - agree.

The new Pro2 releases on April 12th. Looks interesting. Lots of features for a $50 controller.

The Pro2 looks great... might consider getting it for my PC.

Won't want it for my Dreamcast or Xbox consoles because the buttons are not labeled correctly, as it follows the Nintendo format.

I just won a white Xbox One controller from From Japan for 4300 yen (+ shipping), which is the cheapest I can find. Hopefully this ends my wireless controller ordeals on the Dreamcast for the moment, and should tide me over until Retrobit gets around to releasing their promised controller.

I used their Ultimate Software to permanently swap the A&B and X&Y buttons on my SN30 Pro+, to follow the XBOX layout. But, as you say, the labeling is now wrong on the controller.
