VMU loosing saves

Anyone know what component inside the vmu would need to be replaced if when the batteries in the VMU go bad or are taken out all the saves are lost. It's fine as long as the batteries are good and aren't taken out but with as fast as it chews through batteries it's an issue. It's odd I didn't think the vmu's used volatile memory.

I agree with Ian, my childhood vmu from 1999 still has my saves 20+ years later
