Worms World Party over VGA

This has bugged me for quite a while. The vast majority of the time when I try to launch WWP in VGA mode it just shows a black screen, and I get sound. Very occasionally, it works fine, after a few flickers of my screen (in the sense that it does if I disconnect something or change resolution on my PC).

Does anyone know why this is? According to the box, it doesn't actually support VGA mode!

This is a PAL game on an unmodded PAL Dreamcast. I am using a VGA cable rather than VGA box.

(title says Worms Armageddon, but post says World Party, so assuming you meant world party)

maybe the PAL version is a different build than the NTSC build. NTSC build works fine over VGA. You can try using a Codebreaker disc, as the sylverant boot disc will boot non-vga games in vga but won't work with Windows CE games

if it didn't support VGA though, it would tell you in the BIOS that the video output cable isn't supported by the game. so you might just have a bad GD-ROM (or CDR since you didn't specify) because that kinda stuff tends to happen when the binary fails to scramble\descramble\execute which is the result of a scratched\worn GD-ROM or a bad CDR burn

hope that helps

according to the master list, PAL WWP should work just fine in vga, maybe there's something wrong with your copy? https://www.epforums.org/showthread.php ... -amp-Guide

edit: I just booted mine (PAL) 3 times in vga and it works like a charm, so I'm almost sure your disk is fucked up

The disk is in good condition, and it never has any issues reading through SCART. My WWP case does not say it is compatible with VGA interestingly! I'll give the disk a clean anyway to see if that improves the situation.

a bunch of games don't have that on the box, yet they are perfectly vga compatible

I have a copy of sonic adventure with similar issues. Not vga related but it doesn't always load ether. The disc is mint. So I ended up getting another game and the new one works perfect. Not sure why the old one does that. My dreamcast has had no other problems playing anything.
