Shutting down the Pi?

Is there a command I should type into the console when I want to turn off the Raspberry Pi?

Does it? XD I usually just unplug it, even some power supply for the pi have a switch on it to turn it on and off.

Yes, run "sudo poweroff" to shut it down gracefully. Removing power without doing this can cause corruption on the SD card. This is especially important for DreamPi, since it writes to /var/log/messages like crazy.

You don't _have_ to, but you might have to re-flash or replace the SD card after some ungraceful shutdowns.

You can access the command shell via SSH with PuTTY. But you'll still have to unplug and plug it back in anyway

Agreed. I will wait until my dreamcast is shut down then unplug my dreampi. I was told it was safe.

I just pull the plug, should my sd card become corrupted (which has not happened yet), I'll simply rewrite dreampi on it, it's not like it takes an hour or is difficult anyway...

"sudo halt" or "sudo shutdown -h now" are the proper commands. You risk corrupting the SD card by unpluging power abruptly, but that's it.
