Request: DreamPi E-mail Relay

Something I've tried to do a couple times is setup a Linux E-mail relay on the DreamPi that functions the same way as my guide here viewtopic.php?f=42&t=7844

The problem is "relay" is a very broad term in terms of the wide array of uses programs like PostFix have. I don't really understand how to make it so you input "192.168.1.99" as your POP3/SMTP servers on Dreamcast, and it will relay a sent e-mail from Dreamcast, to the Raspberry Pi e-mail relay, out to e-mail provider like Gmail

Sending and receiving e-mail from a Dreamcast browser is kind of a novelty, but the Sonic Adventure ranking program allows you to send e-mail messages between users. As does Dreampipe BB (which would be nice if there was more activity over there 8-) ). Something like this coupled with a dedicated e-mail account would essentially make your Dreamcast e-mail client a private inbox for Dreamcast online. Where you configure it once by SSHing into the Pi, putting login info in ~/login.txt, then not have to configure it again

There is the CmailServer guide above, but it's a slight hassle to configure and your PC needs to be running for it to work. Having a 'configure and forget' solution on the DreamPi would be really great

Can anyone look into this and ask Kazade to put it in the next DreamPi release?

Not that you know this already but someone over at the Saturn Netlink League Forums did something like that. It's not exactly setup and play kind of deal, but it may a a start.
My Steam Profile (from SteamDB)

  • Worth: $2623 ($699 with sales)
  • Games owned: 250
  • Games played: 146 (58%)
  • Hours on record: 1,948.2h

It should send you an e-mail with a generated password, check your spam folder. You can re-register or I'll see if I even can safely delete user data tomorrow

Generally in many cases POP3 (getting mail) works for AOL and I think yahoo. SMTP for sending mail is what doesn't work, and I tried like 10-15 providers. He's also not very specific how he setup the POP3 relay

That would be really cool. Sega Swirl I think will work with AOL since that POP3 seems to works, I think Sega Swirl only needs POP3. But it future proofs it if the SSL encryption is modernized even more at some point

Keep in mind if people do start using it for a private message box for SA1/BB and/or a future use for it, it can be accessed in every game with an internet browser, which there's a lot

Sorry I'm only a little confused on who would host the emails. Is this implementing the functions of CMailServer into the Dreampi where we can use something like a gmail account? Or something entirely different.

Hi

This should be a example setup for the dreampi:

Incoming mail:
Internet -> Postfix (SMTP) -> Dovecot (LMTP) -> MailBox/Inbox
DC Mailclient? <-> Dovecot (POP3) <-> Inbox (stored on the rasberry)

Outgoing mail:
DC Mailclient? -> Postfix (SMTP) -> Destination (SMTP) like Gmail.

The only drawback might be that you need to add your own u/p for
the gmail account to be able to user their services.
