Virtua Tennis Online [Power Smash Tennis]

So I managed to get hold of a copy of Power Smash Tennis (The Japanese version of Virtua Tennis) and took it online. I thought there was just an online site and leaderboards, but it looks like there's a fully fledged online versus mode too! As can be expected of a Japanese release at this point in time, the versus mode is offline (The connecting process works, but there's no server to connect to), and while the Homepage option works, the site is awaiting transfer (Though it does properly re-route you to Dreampipe!). Dreampi Companion also doesn't recognise you're online in the game yet either, so the option doesn't light up in your Library.

Here's the Network Option in the Main Menu, as well as how to select each online mode.

Just converted and translated the Power Smash website, ready for Dreampipe to upload. As soon as this is uploaded it will be available to browse via the in-game browser on your Dreamcast. We can then rebuild the Rankings database (and pray that someone, somewhere can revive the KDDI playable Japanese titles).

Cool!
But I will admit, I was doing some research the other day, and that KDDI thing, is really interesting. It seems that alot of online dreamcast games in Japan used it. :geek:

The KDDI issue doesn't affect websites on Japanese games, sites will work just the same as they do on PAL/US games.

It does affect the multiplayer though. It's an interesting oddity, essentially we'd need to program a Pi to act as a switchboard emulating the KDDI system but the thing was only in Japan to begin with and has long since been out of commission. Shouma and several others have looked into it, some games are more doable than others, but it's quite a hurdle to jump.

The main thing is going to be finding files if a game required them. Daytona USA needs a VMU file (which we have), Power Smash needs a Power Smash Match Ticket (which we don't) - though it's possible the ticket is stored to an isao account and not downloaded.
