How to Get Dreamcast Now's Emoji-based Country Flags to Work with Chrome and Firefox

  • Windows, Linux
    1. Go to https://github.com/eosrei/twemoji-color-font/releases
    2. Download TwitterColorEmoji-SVGinOT-1.4.zip (There are OS-specific ones listed too, but the Windows one didn't work for Windows XP and Windows 7 for me as it expected Windows 8 or newer.)
    3. Extract TwitterColorEmoji-SVGinOT.ttf
    4. Install TwitterColorEmoji-SVGinOT.ttf (For example, in Windows copy it to "C:\Windows\Fonts\" or in Linux, copy it to "~/.fonts/" or "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/". You will probably require administrator's rights to do this.
  • Debian-based Linux Derivatives (Such as Linux Mint or Ubuntu)
    1. Go to https://github.com/eosrei/twemoji-color-font/releases
    2. Download fonts-twemoji-svginot_1.4-1_all.deb
    3. Install fonts-twemoji-svginot_1.4-1_all.deb (For example, "dpkg -i fonts-twemoji-svginot_1.4-1_all.deb".)
Then go to https://eosrei.github.io/emojione-color ... -demo.html to see if it worked. (Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the flags.) If it is not fully working, change the default or standard font in Chrome, Chromium, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc. to use "Twitter Color Emoji."

Windows 7 and earlier only support monochromatic fonts, but 7 is the first Windows to have emoji font support.

Whether color or monochromatic, this will enable the flag emoji for the Dreamcast Online Web site with various Web browsers. In Mozilla derivatives such as Firefox, there is color font/emoji support. This worked for me with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Linux.
