Which oversize CD-R working in the DC

Hey Guys,

I have the idea to make a list of oversized CD-R Brands, which works for the Dreamcast or don't work.

I begin with my experiences

CD-R which work fine:

Magnavox [90 Min / 800 MB]
TDK [90 Min / 800 MB]
Memorex [90 Min / 800 MB]
Primeon Printable [90 Min / 800 MB]
Intenso [99 Min / 870 MB (900 MB)]

CD-R which don't work:

Mediarange [99 Min / 900 MB] = The Disc Jumps and the Dreamcast can't it read.
SmartTrack [99 Min / 866 MB (900 MB)]

Plasmon [99 Min / 900 MB] = I am not sure, but the Nero CDNFO Tool give me out, that the Mediarange CD-R which don't work, have a Plasmon ID.
It can be that Plasmon CD-R have a similar structure like the Mediarange and will not work too.

Pls Post our experiences too, to make a good list, which CD-R Brands working fine in the DC.

i have used a few brands of 90 minute CR-Rs. so far i have not run into one that wouldn't work. i like Memorex the best, but i also had 100 Magnavox CD-Rs and so far they have all worked fine. i got some TDK ones from the dollar store that worked fine too. all of the discs i have used are 90 minute 800 mb.

have you guys given any thought to you troubles being your burner and not the brand of discs? or maybe a combination of the two?

TDK, Verbatim, .... are Top CDR Brands.
Memorex are a good Brand too.

I think the Quality Brands shouldn't make any problem.

You can find 800 Min CDR from Verbatim, TDK, etc....

But it's a big Problem to find 900 MB / 99 Min CDR from these Brands.

Many Writers can't handle with them. In Addition to this, the 900 Min CDR haven't such a compatabily like the 800 MB CDR.

I have the best resolution with Intenso 870 MB. I think these CDR are recommend for the DC.

I have at Home 4 DVD Writers

The oldest one is 3,5 years old. The newest one have now a month.
From my 4 DVD Writers only 2 can handle 900 MB CDR and 3 can write on 800 MB CDR. My Writers have get all the latest firmware update.

So I don't think it's a Issue with the Writers. It's more a Issue with the compatability of the Brands.

the Mediarange [99 Min / 900 MB] dont work on the Samsung GD-drive but on the Yamaha GD-drive the works fine maybe because its a other drive or the laser is stronger

Has anyone been able to find a brand of 99 or 90 Min CDRs that can properly burn Shenmue II and other games?

I found some recently. Ive been playing the Shenmue Undub on them witgh no problems. Sadly the site I ordered from doesnt ship outside Japan. If you wanted some perhaps we could work out a deal. PM me if you are interested.
