It's not too easy unfortunately. I've been trying to find some way to do it with my capture device but no luck so far. Some games mention it on the case and you might be able to find some reviews or articles that mention it as well. Some people are also gifted and can tell 60FPS when they see it.

There are at least two ways to check it.

  • Run the game in your Dreamcast emulator of choice and record gameplay footage with Fraps or some other program. Step through the recorded video frame by frame with VirtualDub to see if each frame contains animation or if there are duplicate frames.
  • Connect your Dreamcast's VGA output to a VGA capture card (or connect the VGA output to an HDMI/component converter and then record 480p from that) and record gameplay footage with the capture card. Step through the recorded video frame by frame with VirtualDub to see if each frame contains animation or if there are duplicate frames.

Brilliant! Thanks Aleron! :D VLC Media Player can also cycle through frames so I should be able to do it with that.

Edit: I was able to add Rippin' Riders to the list using this method. I also found out that Quake III Arena, Wacky Races, and Omikron run at 30FPS and Half-Life runs at 15-20fps .

I don't think Speed Devils is 60 FPS; it certainly doesn't feel like it.

I've heard Toy Commander does, and I have a hard time thinking Crazy Taxi does.

At least it doesn't hold 60 FPS, sometimes it gets down to like...10.
