Aaaaaaaah, okay. So it seems to be a 2-Player-only minigame.
Thanks for the hint!
I will try it with two VMUs then - hopefully I still have enough batteries at home ;)

Addendum: having two VMUs connected actually did the trick!!
BTW, this has been about "Bababa Battle" - the minigame from "Real Sound - Kaze No Regret".

streeker wrote:Shenmue - man this game is huge... It took about a week just to compile a list of all the character animations (DLC), that are still missing. With the help of the (unlocked) Shenmue Passport disc, an almost perfect savegame and a helpful website (http://orchardslope.g1.xrea.com/shenmue/p1.html), I've manged to get it all together.

Overall there has been once a total of 339 character animations for the "Shenmue Goodies" VMU minigame. 4 of these came with the minigame itself, the other 335 could have been downloaded in exchange for "winning cans". Yet, in order for these characters to appear on the listing in "Shenmue Passport", Ryo had to have talked to or crossed paths with them at least once.

207 animations are currently in circulation, the other 132 are missing. I would be nice, if at least some of these could surface somehow. I'd love to add as many as possible to the VMU collection set for a June 30th release. So, in case you still own some of the "Shenmue Goodies" please go through the following lists and let me know, if you find something.

This is the list of all wanted characters in alphabetical order:

What are you up to??

The savegame I was referring to is from El Bucanero's VMU Backup CD - it's named V41425.VMS.
It will only work with the US version of the Shenmue Passport disc. Six characters haven't been met, according to the Shenmue Goodies overview.

Regarding "NBA 2K1 VMUv": I've managed to to alter icon from the VMS file by "hand-pixeling" one frame of the actual animation into the code using a hex editor ;) So, it doesn't look that bootlegish (i.e. icon that reads "LCD Anim") anymore. I think I'm fine with the result for the time being.

But, it also came to my attention, that there have been "VMUv" animations for the other 2K1 sports games - namely "NFL 2K1" and "World Series Baseball 2K1" - as well... The former has been available on the following SEGA website: https://web.archive.org/web/20040212090 ... ndex.shtml. For the latter I couldn't find a proper SEGA microsite, but it has been mirrored on the following website back in the day: http://www.angelfire.com/games4/segafan ... games.html

So yeah, that's another two minigames/animations, which are still missing...

Okay guys, I'm in the middle of getting everything together for the release.
And I realised, I need help from somebody, who's in possession of one of the green GODZILLA VMUs - one that still has the original minigame installed.

The thing is, the minigame unlocks the "Collected Coliseum" mode in the Dreamcast game "Godzilla Generations". I'm trying to recreate this unlocking process, but I believe, the minigame has to be installed under its original filename - which I don't know yet. So, if one of you could help me out with just the filename, that would be great! Take a look at the example picture underneath to get an idea where to look for it. Thanks!

I have the VMU and if its the file name from the VMU manager screen i can do that.
If its something else you'll need to let me know.

I just realized, that you have be logged in to see the picture...
But, yeah. I only need the name from the VMU manager screen - middle row on the left side, should be about 12 characters long.

Okay, here's what my copy looks like. I bought my green Godzilla VMU, used from a Japanese seller, and it has both files, Atsumete Gojira and Godzilla Generations. It's safe to assume the one feature has been activated.

Atsumete GOJIRA - VMU game

Code: Select all

あつめてゴジラ ~怪獣大集合~     GAME
GODZILLA              GODZILLA.VMS
1998/07/11 00:00    128ブロック

Godzilla Generations save

Code: Select all

ゴジラ・ジェネレーションズ   DATA
GODZILA_GEN     GODZILLA.DAT
1999/08/15 09:50      6ブロック

Well, I've been able to recreate everything exactly as seen above. Still no luck on unlocking the special mode in "Godzilla Generations". I guess, I'm out of ideas now. Could it be that "Godzilla Generations" is actually looking for something hardware specific on the Godzilla VMU?
