Dreamcast Racing Wheels?

Post by Dihnekis »

Does anyone know anything about the racing wheels that came out for the dreamcast? Which ones are good, which ones to avoid, etc. I'm interested in getting one for F355 challenge.

Look in the video thread pinned in this part of the forum, Adam has posted a video review of both available for the dreamcast.

Also, there are a few adapters you can buy that allow you to use other system's equipment on the dreamcast.

I have a set of total control 3's and Sega Saturn racing wheels, but I actually wouldn't suggest this option, as the Saturn wheels function as an over glorified digital pad, instead of the analog smoothness available on the dreamcast.

But there is also an adapter called the Total Control Plus, which allows for (the best) playstation 2 equipment to be used on a dreamcast, which I'm assuming will allow wheel conversion.

These are my videos he's referring to:

Incidentally there is at least one other type of racing wheel out there for the Dreamcast, but I don't have it.

Two others 3rd models are the Interact Concept 4 and the Thrustmaster Ferrari wheels.

How are those rjay? any experience with them?

Thanks for the videos adam, but do you have any comment on how they actually play? I'm intending to actually use the wheel, not just get it for collecting reasons. Someone commented on you video that the best wheel is the MC2 from MadCatz, but I hate that company so I'm kind of wanting to stay away.

The official one has the throttle on the wheel, which as someone pointed out on your video is completely stupid, and pretty much a deal breaker.

Maybe I need to look for some PS2 wheels, although I will be worried about compabitility issues.

hmm there is one on ebay for $50. I might grab it, plus the fact that it is official makes it even more desirable.

How well does it work with F355 Challenge? Thanks guys.

Dihnekis:

Unfortunately I only own the official DC wheel so I cannot comment on how those models play. However here is a detailed review of the Interact Concept 4 Wheel:

As for the Thrustmaster, here's a fan review from the old DC Usenet postings now archived on Google Groups:

Thanks for the links. I was actually requesting your opinions on the official wheel, not the other ones.
