question and a software proposal for the dc online games (dreampi, shouma, devs, etc.)

there is a need for dns software for those who use different methods than dreampi to connect to online dc games.
a way for people to host a dns server on their home networks.
those who use dial up, netopia, dc/pc server, bba, etc.

an example would be a decent application called dr. dns that was simple to use for connecting to pso game servers.
i know that there is open source dns software out there already, and other options too.
this software sole purpose would be for dc online gaming only.
we shouldnt rely on a single connection method for anything relating to dc online gaming.
we shouldnt rely on one option for a be all end all solution.

if the authors of the reverse engineered dc game servers and dreampi decide to leave if shtf (not saying this would ever happen)...
then the dns servers and all of the game servers vanish forever.
we should have all of the dns records updated monthly and stored in a database.
if game server ip's change the records are updated..
also the reverse engineered dc game servers should be publicly released (i know this will cause drama even suggesting it)
think of the outcome if all this progress in dc online gaming ceases to exist anymore.

im sure this will bring up a heated discussion of licensing and IP.
before all the talk of a legitimate approach of reverse engineered server software releases..
think about the actual dreamcast online gaming community first.
it should never be about anything more than just that.

lastly, the dc games that can connect to game servers should all have any of these things..
a patcher disk/loader, a patch tool for .gdi/.cdi, or a modified .gdi/.cdi
of course some games require more than a dns patch..
let me know what you think about all of this.
or don't lol

Everything you're asking for is already available. lol

Game server software and sources are available here.

You can make your own DNS records using dnsmasq which is a simple text file located at /etc/dnsmasq.conf on most flavors of Linux (which is what's used for both DreamPi and most PC-DC servers).

Any patchers or modified discs are available here.

Lastly, some information about how the various game servers work can be found here.
