Insanely high pitch squealing coming from disc drive

Hello everyone, recently I've bought a Dreamcast and a few games with it. Every time I spin up a game the disc drive makes a high pitch squeal that legitimately hurts my ears, to the point of where even when the dreamcast isn't on I can still hear the noise it made because it's burnt that noise into my head.

Is there any way to fix this issue? Or should I just call it an early wrap on my dreamcast days?

is it only when the laser moves or is it the sound of the motor spinning the disc?

I had something very similar happen to a dreamcast.

Open the lid: is there any fine white powder on the back laser assembly?

If so, the inside ring of the CD is hitting the laser tray. A solution is to cut 3 small pieces of electrical tape and evenly stick them to the rubber base of the rotating CD spindle to raise the CD a little higher. This will take quite a few attempts as the CD needs to be perfectly balanced otherwise the laser will not read the disc.

Holy cow, this has been happening to my DC for the last week or so too.

Happens when some of my disks pin up to full speed, the it starts to have a high pitch whine. If I bump or tap the console slightly, it'll go away for a few seconds, then build back up again.

Gotta check if the same thing is happening on mine.
