Which Genesis / MD games have the thickest box?

Hello friends

I made a nice plastic clamshell case for my Sonic and Knuckles game. I had the original cardboard box but screw that crap. I put it up on auction on ebay (just the stupid cardboard box; no game or manual) and someone paid 18 dollars for it.

It sucks.

Anyway, I made a nice case for it. I went to a copy place and got a nice high quality inlay of the cover art. I cut out the plastic I needed to cut out. And it looks great.

There is only two problems: 1) When I close it, the cartridge barely fits inside. This makes me paranoid that the color on the "Sonic and Knuckles" sticker on the cart will eventually fade and wear. Also: 2) The manual will not fit under any circumstance.

Genesis / MD game cases have slight variations in thickness. (For example, I first tried with the Super Monaco GP box, and the cart did not even fit on its own.) Meanwhile, I have an empty case for NBA Live 96, in perfect condition, and I can't use it because stupid EA and their abnormal cartridge shapes.

Basically, I want to know which Genesis game has a thick game case but with the standard shape cartridge and not the EA nonsense. I want for Sonic and Knuckles to fit -- along with the manual -- with no problem whatsoever.

If anybody has any knowledge on this I would greatly appreciate your help.

Might and Magic: Gates to Another World had a ridiculously long instruction manual, about 176 pages long. But I don't know if it would affect the case or anything.

I remember having a Road Rash II for Genesis in a ridiculously thick box.

Maybe try that one?...

EDIT Looks like I still have the picture from the sales. Bottom row, third from the left... ;)

That looks quite thick.

However, isn't Road Rash an EA title? That means it has the nonsensical weird shaped cartridge.

All EA game boxes are automatically unusable for this project for this reason.

Otherwise, I had a Live 96 box which would have been perfect for the job.

Yup, EA unfortunately...

But the S&K cartridge doesn't fit a regular case either. Unless of course you cut out to two plastic pieces that hinder the top of the cartridge from sitting flat in the case...

^ Yes but the width of the S&K cart is the same as the standard Genesis games. It just has that lock-on thing on the top.

So the box of any standard-sized Genesis game can do just fine if you cut some of the plastic off. I did that with my NCAA Football box. I can upload pix later. The problem is that it just barely fits the cartridge and does not fit the manuals.

I don't know...the box with "SAMPRAS" on it looks pretty thick. If you don't see it, it's at the top row, beside the box at the very right.

I have actually made a video about this, even though I have yet to find a non-EA game box that can fit both the cartridge and the manual.

It's my first youtube video!

Pete Sampras Tennis has an even weirder cartridge.

It's got two controller slots in it for 4-player action...
