Wow, good stuff! Actually Dubai's Sega Republic is more a family attraction and most games I've seen elsewhere. An arcade I would really like to visit would be Club Sega in Akihabara, Japan.

You ever been to Sega Republic? Looks really nice!
I was at Dubai Mall on a sunday, wich means the store was closed but you could walk around!
Facinating aquarium there, atleast:D
PSO Dreamcast: Felix (FOnewearl Lv 115)

Dreamcast Pal (bought brand new last year), BBA, VGA adapter with HDMI converter (720p), Sd card with 32 gb memory and retail PHANTASY STAR ONLINE V2
-Does it get any better for a Dreamcaster:D?

Ha-ha, no I've never been to Dubai. We used to have a Segaworld in London many years ago but it went bust and was replaced by another arcade in late 2000. Here's a video of the place taken in 1998:

RIP Sega Park 1996 -2013.

Well, it's all over....Sega Park closed yesterday and I said goodbye to the staff who were packing up this afternoon. Not sad to see it go in its current state...it was cut in half and look really sad for the last 6 months. Unfortunately the owners of the mall the arcade was in went bust a few years back and they've been trying to sell the complex for a while. So earlier this month they ordered all the tenants out as it's being closed until a buyer is found.

While I won't miss the final chapter of the arcade, some of my best gaming moments were had there. Between 1996-1998 when I was part of the 2D fighting clique, to 1999-2001 when the relationship between Dreamcast & NAOMI brought the world of console and coin-op gaming together (and I won £500 on the Daytona USA 2 tournament!), and finally 2004-2006 when Outrun 2 & Outrun 2 SP hit the scene! I also won an IPOD mini in a minor Outrun 2 tournament back in 2009.

Sadly this marks an end to the Sega Park/Sega World dream that started in the UK back in 1993. While I loved these arcades back then, the awful truth was they lost huge amounts of money which probably had a knock-on effect on Sega's Saturn & Dreamcast campaigns. But I had fun and I guess that's all I should worry about in the end. Anyway...goodbye Sega Park old friend, and thanks for the good times! ;)

Near where I live there's an arcade/bowling center inside a shopping center (mall) that is long past its glory days, when it comes to arcades at least.
It used to have tons of arcade machines, specially racing and lightgun cabinets from almost every major arcade developer, but eventually it started to linger and the management opted to sacrifice a considerable area for bowling, which is more profitable.

Last week went there (previous trip was a long time ago) and played a couple of Daytona USA 1 & 2 races with a friend for €0.50 each - next time I have to remember to start the race on the 4th gear and not on the 1st... Still won though!

It amazed me that the vast majority of the cabinets that they decided to keep were from Sega, some in a not so good condition but still fully functioning.

They had: Virtua Striker cabinet with Power Stone on it (2nd player controllers removed), 7 linked Daytona USA cabinets, 2 linked Daytona USA 2 cabinets, 2 linked F355 Ferrari Challenge cabinets, 1 or 2 Crazy Taxi cabinets, 1 or 2 Sega Rally 2 cabinets (linked?), 1 or 2 Virtua Tennis (not sure if it was the 1st or the 2nd), and a few more that momentarily I don't remember...

Great fun revisiting the arcades!

The company in charge of the Sega Park franchise have sold their final site in Bournemouth and are currently in liquidation. Therefore I will now release the pictures of Southampton's Sega Park murals taken on the final day.

http://1drv.ms/1srCt7c

Sadly they're all a little blurred as I had to take pictures quickly using a basic camera. These should appeal to fans of the Saturn era; the place opened in 1996 and never had a refit.

The old Bournemouth Sega Park site, where it all began back in 1993, was recently refurbished thus making it a totally different arcade. The UK Sega Park story is now at an end...........
