My favourite ones from good to less good.. I didn't really list the ones I hated like Sonic 06.

Classic Ones:
Sonic Mania (I hope to live and see this running on the DC some day...)
Sonic CD - My parents got me the PC version which for some reason came with US soundtrack, which I still listen to this day.
Check out this song for example: https://youtu.be/6RZt4JoD1eE
Sonic 2
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Sonic 1

(Semi) 3D ones:
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Generations
Sonic Project Unleashed (Unleashed maps for Generations)
Sonic Colours (original GC version running on Dolphin in HD with 60fps patch)
Sonic R

Sonic Adventure 2 was the only game that managed to get my attention. I have played it for like months. Other games released by Sonic are not up to mark. Their golden days are almost over.

Lol, almost over? It's been over for more than a decade. The last few Sonic games that were at least decent wasn't even made by Sonic Team. The All Star Racing games, Sonic Mania...all made by 3rd party studios. Sonic Team lost their mojo ages ago.

I might be biased but I found that the Sonic series wasn't really the same after Sonic adventure, so yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Ian on this, sonic CD is the best, and my 2nd and third pick is sonic 3 complete and mania,

I'll never for the life of me understand what people love in Sonic CD. The stage designs are just a terrible mess, which ruins the experience from start to finish. The animations and a few songs are cool, but as a game, it was the biggest disappointment for me as far as the classic 2D Sonic games go.

Maybe you had to experience it back when it originally came out? Because playing it after Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles, it was just disappointing. And that comes from someone who has no problem replaying Sonic 1.

For 2D, Sonic 3 and Knuckles for me. If you can find the Sonic 3 Complete Hack, thats the one I usually play.

For 3D, SA2

SA2 looks much nicer and the jump to 60fps makes a huge difference, but SA1 has the best 3D Sonic levels, I think. Even then I think there are a few bad ones, and the ones that are good aren't really anything more than just good, in my opinion.

If you can't tell I'm more of a 2D guy
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is my favorite
