SEGA has announced Virtua Fighter 3tb Online for arcade. It will launch on November 28 in Japan.

Virtua Fighter 3tb first launched in Japanese arcades in September 1997 as an update to Virtua Fighter 3. As the “tb” in its name implies, the game defaults to a three-on-three “team battle” format and adds new skills and balance updates on top of the original game.

Virtua Fighter 3tb Online adds online battles based on the technology of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, allowing players to challenge other users across the country. Additionally, Aime card support allows users to display their player names and records, which can be edited and viewed on VF3tb Online.NET.

This is cool, but I wonder why they did 3TB instead of 2 or 4, which were bigger blockbuster hits for sega.

I wonder the same, but its funny because these last years, there have been like a resurgence of VF3 in the arcades in Japan (I follow the Fighting Games scene) and VF3 is constantly played by a huge crowd weekly. Also, its the game 25 anniversary (Dreamcast Tournament Battle in 1999)

You may not remember, but VF3 was a more bigger deal and far more popular in japaneae game centers than VF4. Perhaps the last BIG entry in the series, tho in no fault to later entires. Just a consequence of where the arcade industry was headed in its decline.

As Mkk_hanzo stated, VF3 still has a very loyal following in competitive circles in Japan to this day. So it seems like the most lucrative choice.

I also suspect the recent advancements in Model 3 emulation that has progressed inside of SEGA as a result of one veteran staffer who's apparently single handedly been working on it during his spare time as a personal project
Coupled with the wide selection of Model 3 titles available for play within the latest Like a Dragon (Yakuza) Gaiden entry, the VF3 choice for arcade re-release make the most sense.
