Honest question, could a dreamcast mouse upside-down be used as a trackball? That's a far more popular peripheral.

You'd have to very heavily modify a mouse to use it properly as a trackball. I tried using my PlayStation Mouse upside-down as a trackball for Tempest X3, and it wasn't a good experience.
