@yzb :

Eternal arcadia :

It means you have found the rate encounter value, could you please tell me where is it in the 1ST_READ.BIN please ?

here's a couple patches for dreamcast games translated into Korean.

Eternal Arcadia (Skies of Arcadia) by Nemo838
이터널 아카디아 한글패치 (Dreamcast) - 19.10.05 업데이트
https://nemo838.tistory.com/2441

Elemental Gimmick Gear by Nemo838
E.G.G.: 엘리멘탈 기믹 기어 한글패치 (Dreamcast) - 2017.07.26
https://nemo838.tistory.com/2807

if anyone happens to know where to find more dreamcast fan translations into korean i'd love to know! :)

unfortunately I deleted all the unpacked NTSC-J images due to lack of hard disk space, all edits were made directly in the image and I don’t remember what exactly I edited :(
Lol used normal ascii on the bin? is this mean 1 Japanese char = 2 ascii chars? also how difficult is to detect pointers and move them to another location so we can have longer text space?

There's an archive storing all of the game text. If its format can be figured out, then the archive file can be extracted and rebuilt, adjusting for more space for text. However, if you're still using the wide SJIS font, you'd still need to generate multiple "extra" textboxes to fit English text. Extra textboxes can be achieved by leveraging the necessary control codes, but the SJIS font is still pretty ugly for an English translation, especially of such a fine game that deserves polish.

That being said, a better approach is to modify the game to interpret 1-byte ASCII rather than 2-byte SJIS, then adjust where the font is read from the BIOS.

You can see here all of the different gylphs and where they're stored in the BIOS font: http://submarine.org.uk/info/biosfont/

You can also look at the KalistiOS source code to figure out how to calculate the location of an ASCII glyph: https://github.com/KallistiOS/KallistiO ... biosfont.c
Find me on...

SGGG saves the text in 3 locations one is the main binary the second is the MES files in the DATA\TEXT directory and the third on some images ofc. i don't know how to patch the binary so i can use more letters because Japanese uses less letters than English.

Edit: about the mes files > https://github.com/slowbeef/sggg-romhack

https://nemo838.tistory.com/2807

this is a pre-patched selfboot .CDI of a Korean-language fan translation of E.G.G.: Elemental Gimmick Gear.
it's 810.5 MB uncompressed, but appears to run fine after overburning (imgBurn, Verbatim 80 min CD-R).

Code: Select all

Elemental Gimmick Gear v1.000 t-Kor Nemo838 (1999)(Hudson)(JP)[!][2M1, 2M2].cdi.7z

https://mega.nz/file/9OQBBCwC#MD-b-CO_JpW3J3p5Of75x_Zoq2fjB_Tv5wZVmbi88Tw
the original .xdelta patch file is available on the author's website (linked above) as a 39-part split 7zip archive.
i've uploaded a single-part archive of the .xdelta patch as a mirror for convenience.

Code: Select all

Elemental Gimmick Gear (J-K)(Dreamcast)_170726.xdelta
(384 MB compressed, 448.6 MB uncompressed)
