Great game to pick for Online play, the big boxes have chat mics in them so you can talk to eachother IN REAL TIME! :D

Real-time in the game's case is not 100% percent correct because the message doesn't get sent until you let go of the button.

Can anyone estimate the release of this Online Mode?

Update on the Dreamserv site regarding Alien Front Online.

Hi,

theres been about a year since I made the announcement that AFO would go back online.

New servers have been written and just a few bugs will have to be sorted before the server will be functional like the old ones.

I appreciate the donations from everyone of you, and you are the reason for the speed-up the last couple of weeks. I had no time or motivation to keep working on it until I started recieving both big and small donations, and for that I am sincerely grateful – the infrastructure in the works now might help us get other titles back aswell, and for that donations are an excellent way of letting me know that this is important to you, but by all means, noone is obligated to do so.

Anyway, updates will come.

Regards

Petter K.

Really looking forward to playing this online again.

Also apparently this game has some other interesting connection features.

The game is built with support for both serial and broadband connections, but the commercial release does not use the BBA support in the connection-dialog.

Well that certainly explains the misconception on why people still believe that AFO works with a broadband connection.

Im not sure how that misconception came to be. As the game never used BBA before

The games made with the newer versions of the network libraries (ie katana sdk 11a/b, NGNET) will most likely have support for the BBA - however, it was/is entirely up to the maintainers of the source-code to impement support for it through the libraries into the actual network connection functions.

I know this is a week late, but Youtube letsplayer/Machinima creator Ross Scott who is famous for his Half Life Machinima Freedman's Mind, has recently recognized that Alien Front Online is coming back.

Skip to 3:05 to hear what he has to say about it.

That's cool. I actually messaged ReviewTechUSA (one of the only gaming channels I follow) and suggested he do a video on AFO. It coming back online could be pretty big gaming news in general and probably spark the interest of many people who didn't really know all this exists

If it actually made mainstream gaming news there'd probably be a large wave of new people. It'd be incredible if we saw full servers all the time
