[project]dreamarena

Post by Dr. Pariolo »

Hi
Im getting a dreamcast soon(yes i know i should never had sold the one i had, but fixing that huge error now), and i remember DreamArena, and honestly i miss it. I remember it was really handy, its cheap-ass javascript system chat(yet that was the best available in that time xD), the vmu save files downloads for lazy players who didnt want to unlock everything by themselves, the mail system etc etc..

And i was thinking of remaking one. I HOPE theres somewhere around there an open source web browser available for dc, it would come handy. For starters, set that new dreamarena as homepage, and upgrading the technology of web browsing a little bit. The web evolved a little bit since dreamkey 1.0 lol

I also thought about providing game servers for the comunity of the new dreamarena, but i see theres already here, so it would be pointless to spread the very few players around here, so i decline that last idea.

But im not making this by my own. Im gathering people to help me. So thats the point of this topic, i would like to know if anyone would be interested.

What i have in mind so far:
A portal with news etc(although there wont be a lot..)
Reviews
Articles
Forums(but for many languages)
VMU saves files downloads
Chatrooms

And everything designed and optimized to be viewed on a dreamcast. Not a huge resolution, as light as possible, so i doesnt take ages to load on the cheap modem the dc uses, and no flash etc obviously.
2 more things:
As i just said, this topic is to gather possible people to be interested in helping me, not to say "that idea is stupid, you should forget about it" or something similar.

And secondly, I already know its a useless and pointless project. Who is gonna be surfing the web on a dc, and spending time on a portal? Its just about nostalgia.. And if you think about it, that project is just as pointless as a PSO or Q3A server. Because both games are on pc, and improved. On pc you can actually add content etc.

Hope this idea attracts the interest of someone.

I just surfed with the DC online recently (09/09/09). I have the DC BBA, DC mouse and DC keyboard. I used Planetweb 3.0 being I am in North America.

Either way it is good to see you again.

As for the ideas you have about a homebrew dreamarena...This sounds interesting.
Hey, all the pleasure is mine for being part of this.

Dont feel worry about #pG#.. I, even being admin, left the place.. That place is so dead no one noticed i left.. So i dont blame ya for leaving too, all the opposite.

And im glad you like my idea, i expected it to look dumb and stupid to the eyes of others :) i must say im very excited about this. My life on internet started with DC, concretely; pso. And im happy im gonna do something back on dc.

So do I understand you might give me and hand with this? :D

@Bob: Im not saying NO ONE uses dc for web browsing, you just proofed it. But youll have to admit you represent a minority, and even you, i bet you still use countless time more your pc rather than your dc to diary web browsing. Plus you are one of the extremely few owners of a bba. I imagine you would have a hard time browsing with a 33kbs modem, and you live in America, which is a way more advanced continent than europe for ISPs. Just to mention an example, my isp(Belgacom, belgium) limits my bandwidth.. Like on a dedicated server. I have the top adsl contract(which costs a lot), and yet i only have 85 gigs a month. Just to say, because i havent even looked in depth to it, i may have troubles connecting my future DC to the network.

But yes, you have made your point: some people still use dc for browsing. If i thought otherwise, i wouldnt even think about this project.

Welcome and that seems to be very interesting in the very least.
I remember once seeing a onlineconsoles member website and i believe he did the website to be visible on a dreamcast, i know this because the VMU displayed a message while on that website and it had dreamcast downloads and stuff like that.
I can try and find the website if you want, maybe the creator can help you.

Damn, its a shame. That script for displaying text on the vmu would have been great! And im sure that webmaste would have some other nice tips aswell. But thanks anyways for searching for me :) and thanks for the comment about the website.

Dr. Pariolo, welcome and thanks for joining.

I like the sound of your project. It's fun to make things like this.

I occasionally browse the web with my Dreamcast. I am using a bba and that makes it nice. I've tried to make this site 100% compatible with the Dreamcast. So far it pretty much is, you can even post in the forums. The only thing that doesn't work is the chat, and I see smith posted a nice link that I forgot about.

I think I could help in someway...
