Dumb question: Should either modem make noise?

This feels like a dumb question. I just got my line voltage inducer in from DreamcastLive.net and I think I set up the configuration options properly in PlanetWeb/XDP Browser. When I click on the red telephone, the dreamcast eventually tells me the connection was successful, but I can't get a page to load and, well, neither modem makes the sounds I used to associate with dial-up. I'm using DreamPi 1.6 on a Raspberry Pi 2 with the Canakit USB wifi dongle, and I set the gaming DMZ on my Motorola SBG900 to the IP address listed on bootup on the Pi. I tried "ping google.com" on the Pi and got results, so my wifi connection seems to be working. It does list the warning: "startpar: service(s) skipped, program is not configured: dhcpcd ... (warning)"

Should I change the DMZ address to 192.168.0.99 instead of .98?

Unfortunately the days of modems making the dial up noise are long gone. Neither the Dreamcasts modem nor the USB modems are equiped with speakers so that is normal.

This may not solve your problem but you are dmz'ing wrong. You don't DMZ the pi address, only the Dreamcasts, which is by default ending in .98

Also welcome to the world of Dreamcast online! I recommend you take advantage of Dreamcast now! to see when other users are online and what they're playing! There is even an Android app. Also the chat box on this site and the Skype group work pretty well to organize people to play with! Look forward to playing with you! 8-)

What pages are you trying to load? Try to pull up dreampipe.net. That is compatible with dreamcast browsers. Most sites these days will take forever to load or fail to load on dreamcast browsers. It's not 1999 anymore.

That IP address - the same IP as the Pi is broadcasting, which I think is because I accidentally forced it when trying to set up DMZ - is showing up when I try, for example, Quake 3 Arena, so to account for the possibility that I have done something wrong on the Pi end, i'm going to reflash DreamPi 1.6 and set up the wifi again.

I'm excited to check it out, but first things first, I gotta be able to load a page first.

Oh, i've tried DreamPipe, Google, OnlineConsoles, the Psilocybin Dreams page; they either sit there trying to connect forever or give me an error message about being unable to lookup the host.

*edit: Here's some more logging after I reflashed DreamPi and got the wifi set up:

Dec 10 09:46:40 dreampi dnsmasq[2221]: reply www.dreampipe.net is 192.185.5.88

It sits trying to connect for a couple of minutes and fails with an error of "Unable to load the requested document. Please try again.", which is encouraging being a different error message but frustrating given it still isn't working for some unknown reason. I can't DMZ the dreamcast's IP address without also entering a MAC address so I don't know what to do there.

Get rid of all dmz settings and see if browsing works. Normal internet surfing doesn't require dmzing. Those settings might be mucking things up.

No DMZ is set up at the moment, so that shouldn't be an issue. Not sure why it almost works but times out.

Power cycle your router. Is 192.168.0.1 your gateway? Have you tried a wired connection? Make sure you don't have wireless MAC authentication on. Is there a possibility that something else on your network is trying to use 192.168.0.99 or 192.168.0.98 IP addresses?

Per my Surfboard configuration/admin tool, LAN IP is set to 192.168.0.1.

SEGA RPG FAN wrote:Have you tried a wired connection?

I'll see if I can temporarily move things to at least confirm wired works but I won't really be able to use it much beyond testing. The router is in another room from the Dreamcast, so it basically has to be wireless for long-term use.

SEGA RPG FAN wrote:Make sure you don't have wireless MAC authentication on.

I don't see anything about MAC authentication on the router.

SEGA RPG FAN wrote:Is there a possibility that something else on your network is trying to use 192.168.0.99 or 192.168.0.98 IP addresses?

Nothing else has an IP address that high.

*edit: I moved the setup into the room with the router and wired it up with an ethernet cable aaaaaand....it does the same thing. Seems to connect to the Pi/Internet just fine but acts like it can't transfer any data either way.
