I wonder how much effort and millions Sega pissed away on that ?

Less than sonic extreme perhaps but their Dc versions were great, so the Saturn c d r were demos in a way.

I'm pretty sure every company pisses away tons of company money on games/research, if you see how many games get canned just before release or even far in dev...

Agreed mazonemayu. Half Life and Geist are examples I guess. But I mention this in particular because it cost what 50 million for Shenmue on dc ? I bet 25 million was pissed away for Shenmue on Saturn, which is like more a budget for 1 game than 4 to 5 "regular" games. Idk that might be technically wrong $ but just trying convey stance. Would you agree mazonemayu or no ?

No true 3d sonic adventure for saturn was a main point it failed in US (really they couldn't start that in 1993 to have ready for launch instead of having 2 teams, 2 countries fighting, begging for nights engine ???). Half ass announcement of launch with only 1 real good game, overpriced, grainy block 32 bit 3d graphics except virtua fighter 2 (yeah let's make a mars and neptune too LOL) although 2d fighters are a gem, horrible architecture system for developers (even sega itself it seems, except am2), half ass party support, etc.

That being said it was well received in Japan and one of my 3 top sega systems, playing vcds since 1995 on it, netlink works good, classic games like sega ralley (so classic I refuse to buy a sr 2 for dc because original so classic), daytona, vf2, vf remix, fighters megamix, manx, nights, battle arena, sonic jam is ok (sonic xtreme demo basically), panzeer dragon, duke nuke, virtua cop 2, die hard, virtua on man so many good ones.

And even though tomb raider and battle arena look like grainy clones, I prefer them over psone. Yeah psone shadow tricks are good, but that system was legos while saturn was grainy.

Virtua Fighter 2 and that Shenmue demo crapped on anything psone did.

I wonder what serial port was going to be used for ?

I agree, also this vid proves that the saturn was superior to the ps1 if programmed right, there's no way in hell the ps1 was capable of that kinda stuff

I know we are all sega fanatics on this forum, but I don't see how Shenmue saturn looks better than a PS1 game. There were plenty of 3D ps1 games with fairly large worlds/levels such as the Tenchu series or Tail Concerto, and I think Shenmue saturn with its blocky graphics and low res textures looks on par with them rather than vastly superior.

Well the fact the demo looked good and wasn't final or polished or vf2 in 1996 looked better than psone in 1999 speaks for itself. Both systems were blocky. Vf2 vs tekken 3. Vf2. A demo of sonic on sonic jam vs crash. Sonic. A demo shenmue vs Nba live. Shenmue. Just my opinion.

thats not the same at all, MGS gameplay is topdown 3/4, that trick just makes stuff LOOK 3d, only the FMV is 3d

Then what about games that have been mentioned like Tenchu series. What about other countless offerings like Dino Crisis series, MediEvil seires, MM Legends series???
