Hey Nik, I've been looking at puzzle games lately and wanted to hear your thoughts on Wind and Water and Wetrix+. They just aren't games I hear much about but both look pretty neat. Also, what is Dreamstudio?

Wetrix+ is one of the more recent additions to my collection. I've been having fun with it but haven't gone too far into the different modes yet (no multiplayer, for example). It gets pretty hectic as there's a lot to manage, but the game is more accessible than I thought it might be (3D puzzle games tend to be a bit hit-or-miss in that regard). It's definitely a good alternative to the normal block puzzle games.

Wind & Water arrived while I was away from my Dreamcast, and I've actually not played too much of it yet - I'm restocking my disc wallet this weekend, so I'll put that in.

Dreamstudio is an RPG creation game, which offers a decent amount of flexibility.

NiktheGreek, that's a great collection. Have you thought of posting some pics in the Members Collection section of the forum ? You shoud do !

BrianC, Dreamstudio is a pretty neat piece of software and, although it's in japanese, it was still possible, preferably with a guide, to create nice and simple rpg's on the DC. It was then easy to upload your creation, enabling others to play your masterpiece. It was quite a cult hit back in the day :) I wonder how many people still use it ? Can't be many !

That's a nice collection, ChrisHa. i notice that you've only got three 'adventure' games to go with your shooters, racers and fighters. In a way, it's the reverse of my own collection. I played mostly adventures before trying those other genres.

If there is one adventure game you might like, it's Shenmue. You gotta give that a try at least ;)

Thanks Neohound. Kind of funny, 2 of those 3 adventure games I acquired from a friend who gave me his games when his DC broke years ago. And Tomb Raider I got as part of a "buy 2 get 1 free" deal. But I digress.

What it comes down to for me is 2D vs 3D. I used to play adventure type games all the time...when they were 2D. Some of these shooters may have 3D graphics, but they're all 2D gameplay. And I've always preferred the sprite based 2D fighters over DoA2 and SC. Racers are the big exception. I believe it's one genre that's been vastly improved with 3D technology.

Other than that, I've never fully embraced 3D.

All that said, I finally played through each of my DC adventure games just last year: I hated Illbleed; just couldn't get the hang of it. Tomb Raider was...OK I guess. (Glad I didn't directly pay for it). But Code Veronica...to my surprise, I did actually like it. So there IS hope. And if the price is right, I might just jump on the Shenmue bandwagon if I ever come across it again. :D
