dreamcast in its hay day

To all the members here, what was your experience like with the DC during its prime soecificallh from 99-02? Personally, I remember purchasing the DC back when they first announced they would no longer be manufacturing fhe dc..i think that was like summer 2001 for me. the first game i bought was nfl 2k....i was absolutely blown away with the graphics...it was so far and above anything i had seen on ps1. my first online experience was q3a followed by UT and finally all of the 2k2 sports titles....that was freaking amazing to me even as a 21 year old at the time...i had never experienced any sort of online gaming prior to the dc. i was in college, had no pc, and certainly could not afford one. never had one as a kid either. ever since then, DC is up there as one of mh favorite consoles of all time...definately my favorite sega console. in fact my video game collection has beenbought and sold a couple of times now due to financial problems in the past, but i have Never touched my dc collection...except for selling illbleed and mvc2 which i plan on obtaining again eventually. any way this is a topic that has interested me for a long while about the DC community.

originally I was part of the Netlink community.. Netlink was my first "computer" as far as browsing the internet and gaming..
so basically I transitioned through that into Dreamcast.. honestly.. I diddnt play that many DC games.. and none online except for swirl.. I only owned 6 games for DC until 2016..
we were all pretty hyped up about the DC release.. not for games but because we knew it would bring people back into the IRC..

as netlinkers.. between Saturn and Dreamcast days(the time between) our group of friends had pretty much moved on to PC gaming as far as online stuff was concerned.. (Quake, Starcraft, populous, AoE.. those sorts of games)

I spent more time on DC browsing the WWW and in the SEGA IRC than I did playing games..
that said.. its not like I never played what I had.. I got a several hundred hours into messing around with Sonic, Toy Commander and THPS2 mostly.. but I played Q3A on PC a shit ton more than that.. lol

I remember me and my older brother getting it for x-mas or shortly after in 01 And I I just remember being blown away by sonic adventure and how you could pick the play on the vmu in nfl2k. my best friend at the time 3 houses down had one and we use to play a ton of power stone, house of the dead, test drive 6, and others never played online though then ps2 comes out my brother traded the dc in for it

but when I was in 7th or 8th grade ( 2004 ) I was sleeping over a friends house and I noticed he had a dreamcast in a shoebox I asked him about it and he was suprized i was interested he broke it out he had all these burnt games all the classics I played as a kid. and he showed me PSO online on SHCTHACK or whatever its called. I was amazed we didn't get no sleep from that night on I know i needed a DC. and when I told my friend I was going to get one he gave me his spare dreamcast and PSO ver 1 disk. and the rest is history

The only two games I have played on Dreamcast are Sonic Adventure and Resident Evil Code Veronica X.

I inherited a used Dreamcast from my former roommate after he moved away, I read a few threads on 8/v/ about pirating games on the system, and bought some CD-ROMS. Only problem is making self-boot discs because boot discs are annoying as hell.

Burning games seemed like an easy way to access the entire DC library until I realized the software for doing so is often proprietary and the documentation is often confusing.

I was always behind on consoles. Grew up with a Atari 2600 while my friends had n64. But I finally bought a dreamcast 2002ish used. Along with a few good games.

That is the same one I play today! I have others for parts and a working spare if needed though. That was my first big console purchase and my best console purchase to date. I love my other consoles bust I always go back to the dreamcast!

I waited anxiously for the release in the States on the famous day of 9-9-99. I had preorders mine at Electronics Boutique almost 6 months prior. On the guys that worked there, had purchased one from Japan, that we let people play, who reserved the system.

Sonic Adventure was and still blows me away, from a graphic and play stand point. I always smile when your running on the wood planks, and the whale is right behind you.

My brother took me to the store (as I did not have a drivers license then) to pick up my system at midnight. I was so excited to finally have one of my own, and had all my friends there the next day to check it out.

I was a manager for Software Etc at the time (now Game Stop) and I was always a huge Sega fan and I was SO excited for it. Naturally I also pushed the shit outta it to every customer cause I wanted to see this thing do well.

As a consumer of the product...I was blown away. I'll never forget a local EB Games at a demo kiosk about 2 months or so before the launch of the console and had a playable demo of Sonic Adventure. My jaw literally...hit the floor crossin that bridge being chased by the whale. To this day, I don't think I've ever seen so awe struck by a gaming console in my life.

So much fun stuff came out for it. Countless hours of PSO...Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Grandia 2, the football games, and so many others.

I was absolutely crushed when Sega pulled the plug on it. I transitioned to the Xbox afterwards, it felt like the most "Sega" console to me at that point in time (my how times have changed there) But yea...Dreamcast is a very special console to me. I just wish it had been able to live for another year at least. So many more awesome titles would've seen a release.
